An Introduction to Word Fantasy®
Word Fantasy®社团介绍
Word Fantasy®, registered in Dec. 2002 and open in
March. 2003, is an academic, not-for-profit association of SISU, aiming at
helping students improve comprehensive English abilities with the main focus on
vocabulary matters. Members are
divided into two groups: General Members that make up the majority of the
association, who join in regular activities; and Organizer Faculty Board, which
is subdivided into three 4-A departments (Academics Department, Activity &
Advertising Department, and Administration Department), establishing a
consistent management system. Computer
software, Fantasy Manager®
is programmed and employed to expedite management efficiency, thus in another
aspect making it possible that Word
Fantasy® provide its best service to its members and lead itself
to the forthcoming business success.
Word Fantasy®2002年12月在上外的社团部注册，于2003年3月首次对外招新，是一个非营利性的学术性社团，以词汇的扩展为主线，帮助会员全面提高英语语言能力的综合素质。社团的成员分为两大部分：占社团人数大多比例有权参加社团常规活动的常规会员和组织策划团队（亦简称“策划群”，译者注）；策划群又被分为三个部门：学术部门、活动部门和行政部门，由此构成一个稳定连贯的管理体系。Word
Fantasy®使用自行开发的计算机管理软件Fantasy
Manager®对社团事务进行高效的全程管理，一方面为会员提供更好、更周到的服务，另一方面也为社团以后的成功打下基础。

Sector designs and
releases most of the Word Fantasy®
computer-based products, such as Fantasy
Manager® (version 1.0 & 2.0 & 3.0 all finished and
released) and Fantasy E-Chronicle®
(Volume I finished).

Database & Web-site Maintenance Sector records content and details of each Word Fantasy® activity ever
held, providing relevant sectors with corresponding information; it also makes
feasibility research of web-site construction and maintain the web-site if the
proposal is approved.

Journal Sector prepares handouts for regular activities, and
publishes the Word Fantasy®

in a monthly fashion.

Academic Research Sector seeks for the most appropriate and best
materials to be used in activities; it also academically supports all other
sectors.

Activity & Advertising Department

Activity Sector strategically proposes each activity to be
held by Word Fantasy®, both
regular and non-regular; it also advertises Word Fantasy® for publicity. Work includes poster-making, non-academic research and so
on.

Administration Department

General Member Management Sector covers all affairs that are relative to
general members themselves, like registering new members, keeping instant track
of member records, providing statistics, etc.

常规会员管理部主管所有与常规会员相关的事务，包括新会员的注册、会员信息追踪等。
l
Financial Accounting Sector records every economic event of Word Fantasy® and prepares
financial statements for school administration audit.
l
财务会计部记录Word Fantasy®的经济交易事务，并为校内的监督管理准备和出具财务报表。
ACTIVITIES
活动

REGULAR
ACTIVITIES are open ONLY for Word
Fantasy® Members.
They are regular because they are held once two weeks, and according to
the initial proposal, two months which contain exactly four activities are
counted as one activity period.
Thus there are two activity periods in each school semester. Regular activities include Vocabulary
Study Forum, Lectures on Vocabulary, Word Game Competition, English Contest Comprehensive,
TV Documentary Broadcast and many more.
Before each regular activity, Advertising
Sector will put notice-board around campus or email, well in advance, to
inform the general members of the event’s time, location, content, and
style. After one activity period, Computer Program & Software Design
Sector takes over the job to code Fantasy
E-Chronicle®, which integrates entirely the content of Word Fantasy® Activities
within one period.

常规活动只对Word
Fantasy®会员开放，每两星期举行一次，每四次为一次活动周期。（所以每次活动周期含四次活动）常规活动包括词汇学习论坛、词汇讲座、单词小游戏、综合英语竞赛、播放原版电视纪录片等等。在每次常规活动之前，活动策划部都会以校内广告或是Email的形式提早向会员发布关于活动时间地点内容的信息。每个活动周期结束后，社团的计算机软件工程部接管所有的四次活动书面、音像资料以作为编写Fantasy
E-Chronicle®的部分素材。

NON-REGULAR
ACTIVITIES, namely, not subject to a regular time schedule, are open for ALL SISU
students. They might be Movie
Show, large scale competition, or anything even we haven’t ever thought
of. Access to non-regular
activities is cleared by admission ticket. Some of the tickets are distributed free, and some sold,
with regard to the cost of running such an activity. This coming semester, there will be two or three items of
fantastic activities held by 5 coalition members all together.

非常规活动，顾名思义，没有一个常规的活动时间表，对所有的上外学生开放。这类活动采取播放电影或举行大规模英语竞赛以及我们还没有想到的一些其他形式，凭入场券入场，入场券将根据举办大型活动的费用情况来决定是否免费分发或是进行销售。合作型组织的五个成员已初步计划在本学期联合举办三项大型活动。

Fantasy Post®, a monthly paper-based journal of Word Fantasy®, is
distributed free for general members.
It will contain sections that make every effort available to meet the
objective which Word Fantasy®
is established for: expand our vocabulary power, make words our slaves, and
hence we are to be the master of the language. Possible sections that will appear in the journal are: WORD
STUDY & RESEARCH, which discusses good approaches for memorizing words and
exemplifies how these approaches work, of course, accompanied with abundant
reading materials; ETYMOLOGY, which focuses only on word origins telling
interesting stories about how some words were first used, and which also covers
some foreign words accepted by English Language; ETSTM-TEST FOCUS,
which tells the best offensive and defensive tactics to figure out the meaning
of a bad-looking word in TOEFL®, SAT® or GRE®
test by applying the approaches discussed in WORD STUDY & RESEARCH section
with real test problems supply; CLASSICS READING, in which there prints
extracts and excerpts of English classics for a better and deeper understanding
of how words are employed to produce the masterpiece of humanity, that is, on a
rhetorical level of vocabulary research;
ENGLISH OF SCIENCE SUBJECTS, which introduces basic terms of fundamental
science subjects such as math, physics, chemistry, biology, etc., some extracts
from U.S. or U.K. college textbooks; FANTASY NEWS, which reports wonderful Word Fantasy® events, and any new decision made by Faculty
Board.

Post®，本学术刊物致力于达到Word

Fantasy E-Chronicle® records entirely the content of Word Fantasy® Activities
within one period, plus many other English study materials, onto a compact
disk. We offer a minimum price of
this product to our members, and a relatively higher price to other students.

Fantasy® is quite proud that we have our own computer-designed
management system, which integrates powerful functions from member management to
financial management. Never before
the advent of Word Fantasy®
was there any association in SISU that employed a self-designed computer
program to manage its affairs. But
we did it, and now we are making this a glorious history.

Last summer Fantasy Manager® v1.0 was
upgraded to v2.0.
