1. Programs Offered
1) Chinese Language Programs
a) Undergraduate Programs: Chinese Language (business-oriented); Chinese-English (double-language program) - 4 years (Autumn admission only; the program opens on September 1.)
b) Non-degree Program: Long-term Chinese Program - one semester up to 2 years (Spring and Autumn admissions; the program opens on March 1 and September 1 respectively.) Short-term Chinese Program - 4 weeks (around July 20 to mid August.)
c) Master’s Program: Linguistics and Applied Linguistics – 3 years (Autumn admission only; the program opens on September 1.)
d) Doctor’s Program: Linguistics and Applied Linguistics – 3 years (Autumn admission only; the program opens on September 1.)
2) Non-Chinese Language Undergraduate Programs:
English Language, Russian Language, German Language, French Language, Japanese Language, Arabic Language, Spanish Language - 4 years (Autumn admission only; the program opens on September 1.)
2. Tuition and Fees (all in US dollars)

d) Long-term Chinese Program*
n Tuition: 2,000 per academic year; 1,000 per semester
n Teaching Material Fee: 60 per academic year; 30 per semester
n Management Fee: 80 per academic year; 40 per semester
*Note: For Long-term Program students, tuition and fees may be paid by the semester.
e) Short-term Chinese Program (4 weeks)

3. Qualifications for
Admission
a) Undergraduate Program:
1) Chinese Language Program: senior high school graduates, HSK BandⅢ or above; under 40 of age; in good health; with reliable financial support and custody. Those whose HSK above Band Ⅴ and having more than one-year full-time Chinese training may study in second grade class and above Ⅵ and more than two-year full-time Chinese training in third grade class.
2) Non-Chinese Language Program: senior high school graduates, HSK BandⅥ or above; under 40 of age; in good health; with reliable financial support and custody.
b) Master’s Program: university graduates with bachelor degree, HSK BandⅧ or above; under 45 of age; in good health; with reliable financial support and custody.
c) Doctor’s Program: university graduates with master degree, HSK BandⅧ or above; under 45 of age; in good health; with reliable financial support and custody.
d) Long-term Chinese Program: senior high school graduates; under 50 of age; in good health; with reliable financial support and custody.
e) Short-term Chinese Program: senior high school graduates; under 60 of age; in good health; with reliable financial support and custody.
4. Semester Schedule
Spring Semester opens on March 1 and lasts till late June;
Autumn Semester opens on September 1 and lasts till late January next year;
Winter Vacation: late January to late February;
Summer Vacation: late June to late August.
5. Application Deadlines
December 31 for Spring Semester; June 30 for Autumn Semester;
June 15 for Short-term Program (summer program).
★ Non-Chinese Language Program: May 31.
6. Application Formalities
The applicant should submit the following documents:
n Completed Application Form
n Completed Financial Affidavit Form (the financial support and custody may be student’s parents)
n Copies of the highest certificate of schooling and academic record (academic record is not required for short-term program applicants)
n Copies of the certificate of full-time Chinese training and academic record (only for undergraduate applicants in second or third grade class)
n Copy of the certificate of HSK (only for undergraduate, master’s and doctor’s programs applicants)
n Two recommendation letters from professor or associate professor (only for master’s and doctor’s programs applicants)
n 6 passport photos (4 for the students who enroll in a program of less than six months)
n Application fee of 50 US dollars

7. Acceptance and Visas
Once accepted, the student will receive the Acceptance Letter and a “Visa Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China” (Form JW 202), and if he/she is to study for more than six months, also a form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners. Students who enroll in programs of over 6 months must take a physical examination no more than 4 months in advance of the date they are required to study at SISU (complete the form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners with original copies of test reports/data sheets attached). With these documents the student can go to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate for visa application. Be sure to have all the above-mentioned documents back after the visa application. They will be required for applying for a residence permit in China.
8. Registration
Students should bring their Acceptance Letter, Form JW202, passport, Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (with original copies of test reports/data sheets attached; exempted for students who enroll in a program of less than six months) and register with the Office of International Student Affairs at the required time. Meanwhile, they are required to pay the tuition and fees.
9. Accommodations
Housing Description
n The International Education Center: a new international students hall, 18-floored, and located on campus of SISU. Both double rooms (7 US dollars per person per day) and single rooms (12 US dollars per day) are available. The building is equipped with central air-conditioning. Each room has a private bath, a telephone and a TV set. The kitchen and washing machine are for communal use. The student cafeteria is close to the Center.
n The Foreign Experts’ Building of SISU: Double rooms (4.5 US dollars per person per day) are available. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning and has a private bath, a telephone and a TV set.
10. Completion of Program
a) Diploma and Certificate of Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctor’s Degree will be issued to those who have completed the undergraduate or graduate programs with qualified academic standing.
b) Certificate of Study and Academic Record will be issued to those who have completed the long-term or short-term programs with qualified academic standing.
11. Points for Attention
SISU will not transfer or refund the tuition paid by students who wish to transfer or quit during their course of study.

a) Undergraduate Program of Chinese Language (business-oriented): Chinese Intensive Reading, Chinese Conversation, Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading, Chinese Viewing-Listening-Speaking, Chinese Writing, Chinese Extensive Reading, Translation, Survey of China, Selected Reading from Chinese Press, Economic Geography of China, Comprehensive English, Computer Application, Import & Export Trade Practice, Conversation for Foreign Trade, Accounting, International Trade, Joint Venture, Foreign Trade Correspondence & Telecommunication, International Finance, etc.
b) Undergraduate Program of Chinese-English (double-language): Chinese Intensive Reading, Chinese Conversation, Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Viewing-Listening-Speaking, Chinese Reading & Writing, Selected Reading from Chinese Press, Translation, Survey of China, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Traditional Painting, Selected Reading from Famous Chinese Literature works, Basic English, Comprehensive English, English Listening & Speaking, English Grammar, English Viewing-Listening-Speaking, English Typewriting, Computer Application, etc.
c) Master’s Program of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics: Basic grammar of contemporary Chinese language, Schools of contemporary linguistics, Theories and methods of contemporary linguistics, semantics, lexicology, pragmatics, Analysis of conversation, sociolinguistics, Contrast and translation between Chinese and foreign language, Phonetics of Chinese language, Studies of contemporary Chinese grammar, Historical linguistics, Philology, Modern Chinese language, Chinese culture, Monographic studies of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, Materials and methods of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, Grammar of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, Essentials of Chinese culture, etc.
d) Non-degree Program of Chinese Language: Chinese language courses at elementary, primary, intermediate and advanced levels are available. The curriculum varies among programs. Each program has fixed curricula. Courses available: Intensive Reading, Conversation, Listening Comprehension, Extensive Reading, Writing, Translation, Viewing-Listening-Speaking, Listening & Speaking, Selected Reading from Chinese Press, Survey of China, Contemporary China (speaking), etc. Course load: 20 hours per week, 4 hours each morning (8:00~11:30), Monday through Friday. Also available are elective courses such as Chinese Characters, Chinese History, Chinese Calligraphy, Traditional Chinese Painting, Taijiquan (shadow boxing) and Chinese Wushu are also offered. The minimum enrollment for each course is 10 students. These courses are taught in the afternoon.
